PROFILE

Author of five consecutive bestselling books and columnist for The New York Times, Bruce Feiler is one of America’s most esteemed voices on faith, family, and health. Employing a first-hand approach to his work, Feiler is known for living the experiences he writes about, both in his books, including Walking the Bible and The Council of Dads, and his popular “This Life” column.

For Walking the Bible, Feiler traveled 10,000 miles across the Middle East, exploring the volatile mix of history and faith. His bestseller Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths propelled him to the forefront of the international dialogue about religious coexistence. He is also the author of America’s Prophet, about God in America, and the host of PBS series “Walking the Bible” and “Sacred Journeys” (2013).

His most recent book, The Council of Dads, explored how Feiler responded to being diagnosed with bone cancer by asking six friends to form a team of support for his daughters. The subject of massive media coverage, the book inspired a worldwide campaign to create similar groups and was profiled in a CNN documentary by Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Cancer-free today, Feiler continues to speak widely about health care in the digital age and the changing relationship between doctors and patients.

Named “Father of the Year” by the National Fatherhood Initiative, Feiler has spent the last few years traveling across America, gathering innovative new research about families. He writes about these in his New York Times column and his new book, All Happy Families: The Secret of Successful Families (February 2013). The book unveils over 200 best practices, including cutting-edge ideas on having difficult conversations, fighting smart, and coping with technology.

Dubbed the “wandering journalist,” Feiler has a zeal for life and humorist’s ability to tell a good story. His other books include Learning to Bow, about his time in Japan, and Under the Big Top, about his year as a circus clown. He is also the author of Generation Freedom, a chronicle from the front lines of the Arab Spring.

Feiler is a compelling personality whose work has been published by The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Gourmet, where he won three James Beard Awards; he is a frequent commentator on NPR, Fox News and CNN.

“The audience was completely under your spell during your entire presentation. You touched souls, and I'm still getting calls to say how wonderful a day it was.”
