Since the release of Devil in a Blue Dress 25 years ago, Walter Mosley has examined race in America in a variety of genres and from all perspectives. Whether it be the sharp political and cultural commentary of Life Out of Context and Workin’ on the Chain Gang, the philosophical discourse of The Man in My Basement, or the historical backdrop of his Easy Rawlins and Leonid McGill mysteries, Mosley puts readers up close with society’s biggest issues.

Racial inequality and injustice, identity and authenticity — across more than 40 works of fiction and non-fiction, as well as in his speaking engagements, Mosley has explored, in all of its complexity, what it means to be Black in America.

Read his response to the question “What needs to happen in the next 50 years for equality to be fully realized in the U.S.?”
